Elizabeth LaCoste is a sought after flute teacher in Los Angeles and San Bernardino Counties with over 10+ years of teaching experience. Her instruction spans not only countless institutions across Southern California, but also across the nation, acting as a guest artist for institutions such as the Vermont Youth Orchestra. She has taught students across the globe from Taiwan to Poland, to here in the United States. Her studio consists of students aged 10+ to adults, with proficiencies spanning from beginner to professional, flutists to professional jazz musicians alike.
Whether you’re starting an instrument for the first time, or a young professional seeking audition preparation, Elizabeth is dedicated to your education and growth as a musician.
The LaCoste Flute Studio strives to develop exceptional flute facility, in-depth understanding of Classical music theory, and flute pedagogical methods in every student. Through which, each student subsequently learns behaviors that transcend flute playing, such as perseverance, self-awareness, critical thinking, self-motivation, self confidence, and goal-setting to name a few.
Elizabeth teaches more than simply how to play the flute well, she teaches her students how to be outstanding, classically-trained musicians that are emotionally mature and artistically confident.
Elizabeth believes that each student has their own, unique method(s) of learning, and strives to play upon their strengths, creating an innovative learning environment that develops confidence in each individual. She understands that success looks different for each student, and strives to set attainable goals in each weekly lesson to setup each student for success.
The flute pedagogy, or the practice of teaching the flute, that Elizabeth is practiced in includes multi-faceted backgrounds of the American, French, and Eastern-European flute schools. Her main teachers include Denis Bouriakov (principal flutist Los Angeles Philharmonic/UCLA Faculty), Erin Bouriakov (international soloist and former principal flute Seoul Philharmonic/UCLA faculty), Diana Morgan (orchestral musician and teacher), and John Barcellona (pedagogue and flute professor emeritus CSU Long Beach). The American School which represents superb technical facility, the French School which represents beauty of air, phrasing and color, and the Easter-European school of disciplined practice methods and technical development.
